From May through till November the season is classed as cool (rather than winter) and day temperatures vary between 26C to 30C with many hours of sunshine. Night temperatures drop a little to 22C to 26C. This is the dry period, average rainfall is 60 mm per month, having an occasional tropical shower. Generally regarded as the best season for cruising around the islands.

From December to April is the hot season (or summer) where daytime temperatures often reach 33C with more humidity. It is a time of more rain with from 150 to 300 mm per month and sometimes it may rain heavily for several days but on average the days are fine. During this time it is possible that cyclones may affect one part or other of the Fiji Archipelago.

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing –half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
